Denise Clardy

Denise Clardy was born and raised in the west Salt Lake Valley area of Utah.  In June of 1972 she married her high school sweetheart.  In 1987 they moved their young family to Washington.  Falling in love with the area, they made Enumclaw their home in 1988.

In Utah, Denise worked in stained glass and crafted several windows in the Salt Lake region.  After moving to Washington she continued designing, making, and shipping smaller stained glass pieces where they were enjoyed in Canada, Costa Rica, and Okinawa as well as many U.S. states including Hawaii.  She also made windows that were installed in Renton and Enumclaw.

Since childhood Denise had longed to learn to draw and in 1998 signed up for a class through Enumclaw Parks and Recreation.  She has since attended several classes at Green River-Enumclaw and Arts Alive including drawing, watercolor, and pastel.

As a watercolorist Denise was an active member of SWAP, a worldwide artist group in which original watercolors were exchanged.  Artists in eleven U.S. states, Canada, Brazil, India, England, the Philippines and Lebanon were recipients of her work.  A vote by members of Mountain Valley Arts in Sumner awarded their Third Place ribbon to her watercolor of a black cat with pumpkins.

While attending weekly classes with Elaine Lynest at Arts Alive she discovered soft pastels.  The GEMs Show held July 2019 at Enumclaw City Hall was her first juried show.  Denise was the recipient of the “Local Artist Award” for a pastel of a colorful cabbage.  She had an exhibit August 2019, also at City Hall, which included small pastels and a creative journal.

Social Artworking is the latest painting trend sweeping the nation.  Denise is an instructor representing the DecoArt Company and has taught “paint-along” classes at Arts Alive, her church, and for friends and family.  She also teaches classes in dot painting.  Dots, dots and more dots!  So much more than mandalas and rocks.  Her classes have included not only painting on rocks but also coffee mugs, wine glasses and Christmas plates.

Denise’s current obsession is card making and paper crafting. Her hand-painted/hand-crafted greeting cards, postcards, and bookmarks can currently be found at the Arts Alive gallery in Enumclaw, Washington.
